Employee Commendations

The Villa Rica Police Department is proud to announce that Corporal Meredith Ivey was chosen as Metropolitan Atlanta Police Emerald Society’s Officer of the Year for her heroic actions last September. Corporal Ivey, Officer Crawford and Officer Swain responded to an accident involving a vehicle on fire. Corporal Meredith Ivey was the first to arrive and found that the vehicle was on fire and the driver was inside unresponsive. Officers Spencer Crawford and Micahiah Swain then arrived and the three officers worked together to remove the driver from the vehicle as it was burning. After the driver was removed from the vehicle he was pulled a safe distance away from the fire and Corporal Ivey began administering first aid.
These officers put themselves in harm’s way while displaying courage, bravery, and team work as bystanders watched. The driver was treated further at the scene by first responders before being flown by helicopter to an Atlanta area hospital.

Chief Michael Mansour said “We could not be more proud of these officers. They never hesitated to run towards danger in order to save the driver’s life. Corporal Ivey, Officer Crawford, and Officer Swain put a stranger’s life ahead of their own and performed their duties above anything that could be expected.”
